Shackles of Dust

by Ramneek Singh

You can bound me with these shackles but not my thoughts.

You can bound me with these shackles but not my words.

You can bound me with these shackles but not my soul.

I am not an object of pleasure.

I am made of flesh and blood.

I have a beating heart and a conscious mind.

I shall not be imprisoned by these chains. I will break free.

Your violence is no match for my spirit, for violence is used by the coward and spirit is used by the warrior.

Your threats do not match the strength of my intention, which can break through the thickest of iron walls.

Your slurs are no match for my prayers, which can liberate entire nations.

In the end, these shackles are merely dust.

You have no power over me, you never did and you never will.

You can bound me with these shackles but not my thoughts.

You can bound me with these shackles but not my words.

You can bound me with these shackles but not my soul.
